can anyone fashion a guess to how these two different displays are made, any 3D programs used etc?

C4D, Max, Maya, Modo, Houdini,,, Any 3D app you know. You can scout and photograph the location and place reference points on the surface area (Dots/tape). Create your animation and rent a VERY VERY expensive projector. They'll run between $50-70 grand retail, but about $5k to rent for a few days.
- and don't look directly into the projector light, it'll burn your retinas.nthkl

yeh a lot of that stuff is straight up 3D.
A lot of the basic stuff could be done in AE.Bit of a cliche these days though.

i shot this one done on a stack of lawn chairs at a party last year. this shit always trips me out

+1 on Hombre_Lobo's comment. You can unwrap your primitive material in your 3D app and replace the still bitmap with a lossless .mov. That video can be created in any animation app.
