played around with it... production values aren't as good as Wired... some nice ads in it... it loads on the fly which is nice. Some odd content in it, like some child stars fave ipad apps!?!?!? can't really tell if I'll use as obviously US centric at present.

Looks like a good offering if the content is right.
I'd happily pay double that for decent localised content though - especially if there was more of a politically neutral stance in the articles.
- I'd need a free iPad with that subscription though.Amicus

I was messing around with it today - pretty damn good. there are a few things i dont like, but overall very nice.

they might even make a profit. 1 million subscribers would have them almost even after a year. It'll probably take 2-3 years to actually recoup current and future investments to keep up with technology and iron out any wrinkles that occur.
- true, but being ahead of the game puts them at a huge advantage.instrmntl

I hear those people that made it have been working nonstop, 7 days a week.

I saw a lot of people on BART using it this morning and I think it looked nice. Converting 1m people into buying it could be tough. Is it like a podcast? Does it download everything in one go at night to be used offline or is it constantly connecting and updating? I like the idea of a newspaper that has real time corrections or relevant updates.

So how does this really differ from the existing NYT or WSJ apps? Wow, touch screen interactivity...video...guess what, they all offer that. Along with the same subscription based content model which I guess has yet to save the news industry.
The difference is that "The Daily" will be entirely reliant on app store dollars to fund itself, while at least NYT can leverage other revenue streams.

So are there ads that pop up?
- randommail0
Then what the hell is the WSJ App for?

If the content is decent, I wouldn't mind paying for it...if you want nice video, interactive graphs & linked content well someone has to do it, which means someone has to pay for it. Let alone the standard articles themselves. Freetards really should stop complaining!
I believe a newspaper subscription costs more than this anyway? (in australia at least)
