A good thing to consider is if you want interchangeable backs or not. Cameras that use magazines allow you to quickly switch between different types of film, which is a really nice advantage.

no, i think i want a simple medium format slr, without interchangeable backs(a must would be slr, not tlr, and lightmetering). usually i use 35mm slr or dslr, but i want to experience with a simple, cheap and efficient medium format to make this documentary project.
pentax, kiev or with some luck mamiya 645- used pentax 67's are insanely cheap********
- in the final pentax 67 with mamiya 645. which of them is gonna be cheap and in good shape. thanksshoto_can

Kiev may be oddball.
I'd get a Mamiya 645 or a used Pentax 645.

the cheapest and affordable buy is the pentacon six tl. i saw alot of photos taken with it and they look great. i will now look for a prism with autoexposure that would fit the body.

i have this:
but with the metering prism it is like 100 lbs.
i have used mamiya afds before and they are much much lighter and have automatic everything including autofocus - pretty much like a very nice film slr. they handle wonderfully.
if however you are willing to do your own focusing you have a million choices as illustrated above (: good luck, and let us know what you end up with!
- I have one of these too. my favorite camera.lightpattern
- i am not interested in the autofocus, but in a light meter in the prism, it's important to control the exposure, becose it will be time consuming to use an external light meter, which i dont have:)shoto_can
