No offense, but they are low-balling you and big time. 44K in Beantown, seem awfully low to me. Like most people said here, aim for at least mid 50's, to 60. Wow, that's low, you have to be struggling a bit, no offense. Boston isn't cheap.

Chilamont I'm not struggling and for the industry I work in that is pretty standard. I know what my friends make at other companies doing similar work we aren't that far off at all.

I make 3K more than an offer I received from another company that is located in NYC.

akrork you are correct. I just got off the horn with the guy in HR and he told me the range for the position and the bottom end is 62.

I'd also negotiate little other things, like 2 monitors, and a more peaceful desk/office location than the usual putting you right next to the water cooler,etc....
My salary negotiation coach friend once told me to ask for at least 1 thing you don't really care about but would be willing to give up in return for something you do care about.... but don't be too obvious a poker player about this.... if they figure you out too soon, you get neither....
