it depends. every foundry had different source material, so if you compare all the futuras on myfonts for example, you will see that the x-height varies a little, there are also more obvious differences in spacing and kerning, glyph count, sometimes even some glyphs look different.
example, look at the ear of g: itc franklin
bt franklin
I'd go with ITC version as it was polished and expanded by david berlow (font bureau). in general the same fonts in adobe font folio are of better quality than BT, simply because they're fucking old.

So, does anybody know what the difference is between ITC Franklin Gothic and ITC Franklin Gothic BT?
Anybody know what the BT tacked on the end means?
