Has anyone done this trip before? I have to drive after the holidays and am a little nervous.

I assume you'll be on main highways, but make sure you have an emergency kit, water, blankets, a shovel and a traction aid (kitty litter). Just in case the worst happens and you get stuck. Obviously warm clothes and good winter tires as well. If you don't have one, I might also look into an after market jack in case you get a flat and can't get help, AMA etc. The ones that come with a car are garbage and take FOREVER to jack the vehicle up. Totally sucks in the winter cold.
I've never driven that route, but I have done similar up here in Canada.

How many miles is that?

great advice. thanks

Bring lots of blankets just in case. Also definetly have a spare tire. Be extra careful on curvy roads when there's ice for sure.

Wow, Mr_F those are serious chains. I think I'm going to avoid Snoqualmie Pass / I90 and head down to I80. Hoping that will be less mountainous. I'm driving an Audi A4 Quattro so at least I have AWD.

Last year I did California-Iowa. Snow chains and that crazy intense coffee truckers drink saved my life.
But seriously. Emergency kit---prepare for anything/everything! And do stay on the major freeways, even if they are slow going-–they are typically best maintained.
Good luck, and have fun!
- Oh yeah-I did I-80 the whole way. Snow chains only used in the mountains. But needed!Bargels

winter is weird time for such a road trip. would be beautiful in spring or something
- monkeyshine0
Yes, it is a weird time. I've done it in early summer but winter isn't ideal but I have to do it.

can ye not fly man?
- monkeyshine0
marychain, I have an old dog who can't fly. It's sad because I'm having my relo paid for...car transport and everything. :(
