What changed and what precipitated this thread?

No, it's been like the text in the first image ever since I was a wee boy.

I'm not sure has changed.
As far as I can tell it's been like the first image for quite some time.

From the link, I presume, you got this from..

"New Scotland Yard's impressive triangular sign identifying its new
Headquarters at Victoria Street, S.W.1 in 1967"- i took the online image from there -lazyness- but I just got a copy of the branding guidelines...maikel

it used to be just a grey boring square-ish thing...
now it comes in 3-fucking-D!I didn't mean to interrupt anybody's busy life, but would you call this a logo?
- It's a brand.detritus
- so that's the brand? and where's the logo? the must to have one, ain't they?
maikel - It's part of the brand, along with Bobby Hats, truncheons and stop and searching black kids. Don't know about 'logo'detritus
- There's no brand. NSY is a building, the picture you posted is the sign outside...rascuache
- Hrm.. dunno about that - I'd argue it is a 'brand'. A brand needn't necessarily consist of a logo or PMS™ colour choicedetritus
- guys, i've got that in file called LOGO. OK?maikel

was it wolff olins who did the met police branding a few years back? someone like that

As you can see, it is a brand and they have merchandising!
My point was that the logo used to be as you can see it in the link, whereas now it seem to be this 3D thing that I posted. Plesae note the difference between something that you can actually print and a rather problematic image that delivers poorly if you reduce it, it's a bloody pain to align and requires high-res print, as there's no way you can edge that thing... aye?

erm. Are you british, or just living over here? The sign in the original link predates anything flat and 2D in the public consciousness, I'd imagine.
Strange to see it 2D, in fact - though the typography does feel very 'Scottish' like that.
Interesting to see that site - is this a new endeavour, or something that's been running for a while now? It just looks quite a lot like a sales pitch, and I've been reading recently about Tory plans to offer Britain's Security & Intelligence services on the private market, so just wonder whether the site is part of some roadmap?
- don't be waicist. I am NOT British, but I've been here about 5 years now...maikel
- about the brand, I've been dealing with met as they wanted to update the graphics in some products...maikel
- the idea of update + guidelines made me think of re-design as I remember it printed in 2D...maikel
- however, I've seen the sign, so I know where it comes from... and yeah, I have a full set of New Johnstons from TfL!maikel

it gets better....the 3D thing SPINS!!!!!!
ZOMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha, I wasn't being 'waicist' you daft blighter :)
The Triangular NSY sign is just one of those iconic things in Britain— perhaps more to children of the 80s when the IRA were in full swing and that logo was plastered on the 6 o'clock news every night.

I know... my brother used to work a few metres away from that building.
Enjoy the guidelines!
