- I'm going to send one of these guys back next week. Before, however,I'm going to do some field tests shooting some photos this weekend to see which I prefer. Just curious to know if anyone has any insight on either of these?
fyi - I'll be using one of these as a middle of the road between my dslr and compact point and shoot.

Keep the LX5 then send me the G12.
- Tungsten0
Return the G12 and send us each a check to pay for that bandwidth

Hard to choose really.
I personally think the G11 (which I assume is identical shape wise to the G12) is the most ergonomic camera ive ever used. Perfect size, small as a camera can be without being awkward.
The lx5 is more pocketable though.

The lx5 is significantly smaller and lighter. It's like comparing a flower to a Mack truck between these two cameras. The lumix boasts better specs. I love the feel of the canon tho.

Yeh fartbox it is really a question of do you want a big cam with lots of dials and quick manual control or a small cam?

If I may muddy the waters a bit, I will suggest you look at the Sony Nex-5 as well. Just picked this guy up in Japan. It;s a pretty awesome bit of kit and takes spectacular pics. I'm carrying it in place of my Nikon D40X now for mostly everything.
- the difference between the nex-3 and 5 just the 1080p recording?jr_fartbox
- Hombre_Lobo_20
@the blue one
The nex is great isn't it. I frequent camera tech forums and it certainly is appealing. Love the sweep panorama and one click HDR. Gotta applaud Sony for those geeky additions.
The smallest aps-c you can get and it's got v good high iso. Have you got the bargain fish eye for it?
The only downside is no electronic view finder attachment and I hear the interface is very annoying.
I'm still tempted though!
- interface is a tad annoying, but you get used to it. And yeah, got the fish eye.TheBlueOne
- siiiick. do really like it. bargain too! you done much video?Hombre_Lobo_2
- Hombre_Lobo_20
^scratch that not 'v good Iso', but 'good high iso'
only say this becuase the e-pl1 seems to do better high iso jpeg with a smaller sensor.- infact this is incorrect, nex 5 is better than E-lp1 and high iso.Hombre_Lobo_2

blue one,
not sure how interested i am in removable lenses. i was checking out the gf-1 and saw the gf-2 is coming out soon but stopped looking into those b/c of the removable lenses. this is really an in between camera for my point and shoot and dslr.i'm gonna check it out though. thanks!

fuck sony. Do they REALLY need to created a new proprietary lens mount for their little camera? That's been their MO with every consumer product they've ever released, you get no choice bu to be locked into their little walled garden.

This is making me have camera lust. Since I came back from Japan with only my iPhone photos - and saw some of my friend's flix with a DSLR I'm in the market.
I know nothing about photography - would any of these be good for me?
- get a starter dslr. i'll sell you a well kept d60 for 250 bucks.jr_fartbox
- u went to japan without a good camera? mentalist!
£400 = pentax k-x + 18-55 +55-200, great quality too.Hombre_Lobo_2

I also looked at some reviews on the Lumix vs the Sony...the Lumix pictures looked more crisp to me and better in low light?
- Hombre_Lobo_20
@sublocked
i dont know about better in lowlight, but i think most reviewers say the panasonic lenses + lumix body, give better sharpness, particularly in the corners.
One massive advantage of the nex system is the fish eye.
its £100 attaches to the 16mm, gives very good quality pics. And when compared to the micro four thirds wide FOV lenses like -
the olympus 9-18mm, (£470)
and lumix 7-14mm (£800)
its a bit of a bargain!

Eyeeee...Think I'm gonna pick up the GF1 + pancake lens. Saw some great photos with both the Nex5 and the GF1 on flickr, but leaning towards GF1. Amazon has it new for $610. Seems like a great price.
- jr_fartbox0
@sublocked - i just saw that gf-1 on amazon that you are talking about! i think i got it for $615 w/ 2 days shipping. i'm returning both cameras to cover that expense. both cameras, btw, are awesome. i couldn't decide between the 2 of them so thats why im just going with the gf-1 - if that makes any sense.
photo update: sold the ipad.
- Hombre_Lobo_20
GF1 CREW ASSEMBLE!!!
Have fun guys, its a great little cam, the noise reduction on jpegs at high iso is somewhat conservative (but with more detail) compared to the oly pen series, but with software you can edit them how you please!
- jr_fartbox0
$300 off the GF-1. Can't go too wrong. Plus I'll be shooting strictly RAW.
I think with the 300 I've saved, I'll grab the s90 as a compact.
