I recently redesigned my online portfolio.
It pulls the most recent images from a flickr set and displays them with jQuery Masonry and a lightbox system for details. I really like the layout and functionality as is, but lightbox really sucks for SEO. Any sort of similar alternatives? I might just break down and design a subdomain for a work blog/tumblr.
Oh yeah, url...

utopian, that second link might work out, thanks.

You have some nice illustrations dude. like the site, very simple and the lightbox is actually not as annoying as normal. seems ok.
i find the back ground is too much of a middle grey though, it interferes with viewing your work. if it was darker or lighter i think it would be ok and make your work stand brighter.
it lacks any information about yourself, your work or contact details though.
here are some wordpress themes you may like as you seem to approve of the tiled simple no nonsense style, would save you some coding too -

Well I'm planning on keeping everything custom, but these links are great help for inspiration. That second example fits the style of my contact info displayed on mouse over.
- yeh actually, its very similar!
i like that imbalance theme, very clean no nonsense!Hombre_Lobo_2 - Imbalance is great. Building my portfolio on it as we speak...Sep

well, first of all: nice work. but I don‘t see the point in lightbox since the thumbnails are already quite big and the pop ups doesn‘t get you any deeper into the projects (more details, context, more images)...

Ditch the background image, or make it MUCH more subtle – and lighter – as utopian said.

^HOW VERY DARE YOU?

I love the work on your site, a little more info about yourself would help. I know you want to keep it custom, adding an info button for each thumbnail may be helpful for seo, similar to the way Imbalance has it on theirs. Does SEO really mater that much? There are allot of great services that gets work out to art directors, and I am guessing that it would be your main demographic judging by your work. Here is such a service http://www.agencyaccess.com I will be using them as soon as I finalize scribbleandtweak.com (my portfolio site), it's worth looking into. They have an email database to art directors cross the country, and their tools makes it easy to send email blasts.
