Anyone ever used this? The studio I work in are thinking about swapping over. Was wondering if there are any issues with it.
Cheers!

i know people that use it exclusively, meant to be very good.

I use it exclusively. Prior to this machine (a year old now) I used it in tandem with MSOffice for a good 4 years, I guess?
If you need *exact* fidelity of Word, Access or Excel (etc) files across departments or companies using Windows, you might well be better off sticking with MS Office.
For the 99% of people who don't mind if a document's margins aren't exactly the same on two machines, or don't use overly-complex or proprietary Excel or Access solutions, Open Office is perfect.

I have used it for a while. Its the same speed as office and has all the functionality you really need. The power point copy is crap... but so is PP anyway. It sounds strange to say but it doesnt look as nice. But it is FREEEEE. Try it out. Whats the worst that could happen. It does open docx files which normal old word doesnt which I find quite funny. Can sometimes really mess up the layouts of 'designed' word files though...
I recommend trying.

We used to use it but a LOT of times, not all the info was displayed when opening in OO. If you want it to just replace Office, then it's ok, if like us you only have office to open clients documents, then forget it. Have to stick to MS...

Thanks. There are a few people trying it out now. It seems perfect if you're using it from scratch, but it sometimes messes up a little with bullet points n stuff like that when opening old office files.
It is free though. Hopefully it'll catch on in work. And hopefully it'll bring down Microsoft too :)

NeoOffice for the Mac is derived from it and is probably better. OpenOffice is now owned by Oracle and it's future is in doubt, most LInux distributions look set to replace OO by LibreOffice which is based on the same code.
All that said, most people who are used to MS Office will hate it, however OO has a use in that it can often open documents which Office can't or won't cope with.
However compared to MS Office 2011 for the Mac OO looks like something knocked together by 15 year olds.
- tbf, what most people know as 'OpenOffice' IS LibreOffice, but good point to mention. Oracle = more cunt than MSdetritus

I was told there was a mass exodus at Oracle and all their best playas left the game? Is this true? They do sound like the guys at the top are focused on things other than making their product better.
