a question to all ya'll video people out there...

what profiles do you use for your monitors?
I used to set mine up with settings so I could grade for TV, (gamma etc very different) but I hardly do any TV anymore, its mainly online crap.

is it pointless though? by the time some twat watches what I made on vimeo, with his out of the box profile and vimeo's compression on top of H264, is all my effort undone anyway?

Apple suggests using ' generic RGB ' , it looks hideous.

anyway, just looking for some opinions and if anyone has some uber cool profile theyd like to share.

now i must go to eat ribs.

why exactly does "it look hideous"

You should worry about calibrating monitors if you are working on paper, if you are working on video, you are best sticking with the standards, so everyone else on a standard monitor will perceive it the same way.

trying to keep consistency in video is kind of futile. no matter if your stuff looks awesome and perfect in the studio, when it goes home, the end user can/will have some whack ass color profile on their computer/tv thereby negating your shit.

get your look in the ball park and move on. video color, unfortunately, isn't mission critical like print.

    • yes, futile seems to be the word here, anyway, thanks for your input, above too
