streaming music

    Riffing off the Apple thread...do you think streaming music is really the future of the industry? I might be alone on this, but personally I'd almost always rather own my music than have Apple or Microsoft keep it on a server somewhere.

    But even if you're for it, this kind of thing has been around for years...Rhapsody, Napster (v2), Urge, Pandora, Last.fm, Spotify, Grooveshark, Rdio, etc.

    Out of all those companies, I don't think there is a single one that has been all that profitable...and certainly not for the music companies. Which is probably why they are so reluctant to sign any kind of contract with Apple.

    I use Spotify all day, everyday. The music library is impressive and the fact that I can move music to my iPhone and listen offline is amazing. iTunes needs to implement this to really be a game changer. Its too bad North America cant experience the bliss that is Spotify.

    I like having the actual music files on my hdd as well, but streaming music is definitely the future of how music will be heard.

    if i bought it, i own it. if it's on their servers. do i own that part of their servers. hah. wouldn't think so. there fore, download it is. yes!
