OK - so I don't have a visa and want to move to NY from London!
Somebody told me you can set up you own company and employ yourself?
I am already set up as a company in the UK, so maybe that helps...Does anybody have any experience with something similar? A friend of mine did it and it is apparently possible.

i would suggest you contacting Gordy22. he has this very move a few years ago and has been here [NYC] ever since. he will probably have the best information for all of your issues and your move.
good luck in that life change, and give a shout when you get here, we shall make you a special drinks night!
w00t!!

A friend did exactly what you're doing. But, it took them about a year to get all visas and documents in place – they had only been trading for a year under their own business. You really do need to speak to an immigration layer at this stage, as each case differs.
It's an idea which I've started to look into. Well, haven't actually got that far with it as my g'friend may now be moving to London from NYC.
Good luck man
(and Gordy22's a top bloke).- < not very helpful actually. I'll get in touch with said mate and get some info for you...goldieboy

Yeah - NY drinks sounds like good plan!
Gonna get in touch with Gordy22. And an immigration lawyer sounds like a good option.
Sounds like there are loads of jobs going in NY according to the QBN. But I already got used to freelancing and running my own little-studio, so being tied to one agency long-term doesn't sound very appealing to me.

Just curious, but can you do the inverse?
Can you set up your own company and employ yourself in NYC, I mean, I dont want to move from London to NYC, but you never know...

Yeah - that's what I want to do. I leave and have my own small company in London at the moment.

this thread is of interest to me also. i heard the lawyer side of it is about $5000-10000 and that you need investment $$ (quite a bit, $30-75k) in the bank to prove you can sustain the business as it gets off the ground
- that's just to get an apartmentdoublespaced
- aka SHOE BOX. lol.akrok

You might want to read-up on a EB1 visa, it's worked for some photographer friends. Still waiting to hear back from my friend.
