Ive got the afternoon free to wander around New York and im going to lug around my camera and tripod. Whats the best secret spots to shoot the city? Not interested in Times Square or any other major tourist attraction.
Is there a neat spot under the Brooklyn bridge? Maybe an interesting walkway in the meat packing district?
All tips welcome! Thanks!!

could also try the high line - i've not been on it myself, but i've seen neat pictures form people that have been.

If you can get into or around Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City there are great Manhattan Views - especially at sunset:

You can find a good shot on nearly every corner in NY. Depends on what floats yer boat... People, architecture, cityscapes?

shoot the staten island ferry, over near battery park garden. it's a little known secret that people can ride it for free, round trips for as often as they want and get a glimpse of the statue of liberty. nice ride
- last time i rode it, it was like a dollar round trip. no need to get off.sherm

in Madison Square Park near the burger stand, on the south west corner of the park, find a good bench and look for the Empire State Building.
on 29th or 30th btwn 5th and madison or 5th and 6th aves there is a church mid block, the architecture is amazing, it has a fenced in courtyard in front, also there is a clear view of the Empire State Building which is just above/ behind it, great for night time shots.
the High-Line..
west side, south of 14th street near highway.
goto any subways, just dont take a flash pic on the tracks as that is illegal and can grant you a nasty ticket, the flash can cause visual issues with the trains.. fyi
central park..
find the 4 alleyways of manhattan.. take pics.
enjoy rinse and repeat

Its fall probably nice where there's trees. I don't know why you have to go to a crack house or underground to take good pics in NYC
- ever heard of the central park rapist/muggings? safety is an illusion anywhere in this city. just shoot what moves u!sherm
