invoice deadline

i have an agency as a client and on the days before project deadline they would call me every hour on the hour asking if the project will be done on time.
i really don't mind, but when it's time to pay up, i think they've got a manual on how to delay invoice payment. i've heard just about every excuses. sometimes it would take them longer to pay the invoice than the length of the project itself.
in the future i'm thinking of imposing a deadline on when a client must pay their invoice. do any of you guys do this and what do you think of it??

usually payment terms are setup with the contract...

i have it written / stated, that please pay before 30 days.

could also do 50% up front.

30 days or 10% interest

Call every hour on the hour until they pay up... and make it collect.

Most people love a discount... so I factor in a 10% discount for payment within 2 weeks. Works about 50% of the time. I still charge an extra 10% for every month as well, so I really get an extra 20% if they pay later than 30 days.

In line with above, I do 10% discount if paid upfront.

i usually have in my contract that they pay a 25% down payment at the start of the project, but it's always the last payment that takes forever.
i like amicus idea of giving discounts and giving a 30 days leeway sounds fair.
thanks.
- 25% down is low. I wouldn't consider less than a third down at least.ETM

50% upfront. large projects 30/30/30/10.
Nowadays I put "payment due on receipt", although no one really pays attention to that. I've never bothered with interest, the people that haven't paid are the ones that went bankrupt, in which case I was very, very, very lucky our lawyer could get 50% a year later (and it was a sizable amount).
Might change to 60/30/10, or something that limits that second half risk.
