hey,
i bet its a really simply setting somewhere in photoshop i'm missing out.
i have some illustrations of simple objects that i can export as tiff, or png (with transparent backgrounds) from an image library...
but when i 'place' them in photoshop they always have white / black backgrounds.
is there some setting to have them imported with the transparent background?
thanks -

it says export image with transparency for use with programs tht support 32 bit?
ive tried different formats too like tga, tiff and png but doesnt seem to work... any ideas?
i can view the channels of the imported images RGB and R G B seperated...is that all there should be?
is it somehting in how you set up the photoshop file you are working in?

if you open a transparent png in ps, there's no extra alpha channel, you should just see the checkered backround and a layer named layer0

i know it should be such as simple thing...
tried opening the images in GIMP instead... getting this..
alpha channel type not defined for file \Home\Desktop\Sea Life 0217.tif. Assuming alpha is not premultiplied

Sea Life 0217.tif
Well, that isn't a .png then is it. It's a .tif.
Check your alpha channel when you open it up.
