Read the whole thing, it's worth it: http://www.ianwelsh.net/wikileak…
"Let’s just state the obvious here: we’re seeing the end of the open internet with what is being done to Wikileaks. It’s one thing for Amazon to toss them, it’s another thing entirely to refuse to propagate their domain information. This has been coming for quite some time, and Wikileaks is not the first domain to be shut down in the US, it is merely the highest profile. Combined with the attempt to make NetFlix pay a surcharge or lose access to customers, this spells the end of the free internet.
The absurdity, the sheer Orwellian stupidity of this is epitomized by Hilary Clinton telling students at elite colleges not to read the leaks, or they won’t get jobs at State. As if anyone who isn’t curious to read what is in the leaks, who doesn’t want to know how diplomacy actually works, is anyone State should hire. In a sane world, the reaction would be the opposite: no one who hadn’t read them would be hired.
This is reminiscent of the way the old Soviet Union worked, with everyone being forced to pretend they don’t know what they absolutely do know, and blind conformity prized over ability..."
Meanwhile, Boing Boing is reporting that the Wikileak cables show that pending Spanish copyright legislation was essentially written wholesale by US Lobby groups:

In a damning new lurch towards web censorship, Google’s news aggregator has blacklisted Prison Planet and Infowars despite the fact that both websites are internationally known and now attract more traffic than many mainstream media websites, while Google-owned You Tube has frozen the Alex Jones Channel based on a spurious complaint about showing Wikileaks footage that has been carried on hundreds of other You Tube channels for months.
http://www.prisonplanet.com/goog…- This is a *ploy by Alex Jones because he is losing his audience. He actually works with google and youtube.VikingKingEleven

The release of this information does no damage to America’s national security. What it does do is provide the public, and their representatives in Congress, with clear awareness of improper and illegal behavior perpetrated in the name of the American people under a cloak of secrecy. Yet, as a whole, the American congress has been noticeably silent on these points, and the White House has reacted with both threats and determination to limit the access to this information.

I thought about downloading wikileaks encrypted insurance file, then I thought about donating some money to them. In the first instant I thought "I had better use an anonymizing service to do that" and in the second I thought "I better not use my credit card" and then I thought..WTF, I feel like I live in the Soviet Union all of a sudden.

He'll be captured before he releases the BofA files.
- The release of the files is automated. Everything is encrypted then waits on a anonymous servers until release.Dodecahedron

What the leaks have showed us is that the gov't is made up of second-tier citizens with unsophisticated educations and view of the world so closed-mined that it makes one shiver to think that those simpletons are in charge of millions of people.
What it also shows is that the necessity for the govt's pyramid of power to be turned upside down. No more most powerful people sitting far away in some city (Washington), but rather most powerful should be the leaders of community - the leaders everyone has access to can, complaint to etc... Those are the ones who should hold real power. The power should go back to the people.
