The HD died on my Acer machine at the start of the week so i've went and got myself a new Lenovo machine.

This new machine doesn't have a 54mm Express slot so i'm going to have to sell my EMU 1616M Soundcard and get a USB one.
I'm opting for the Cakewalk UA 25EX. Reason being its a great price and kit and also has digital outs :)

This has spurred me onto thinking about getting some new kit, a much more portable kit.
I want knobs, sliders, pads and a keyboard for studio work and playing gigs.

With the knobs I want them to show the current position of the knob so LED's around them would be good.

So IM LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS OF KIT

    I've currently got

    behringer bcr2000

    novation remote sl

    korg nanoPad

All of this plus a laptop is just TOO much to cart about for gigs.

    -----------

Stuff i've been looking at for their LED's around infinite knobs ....

    novation nocturn 25 (£149)

    (leds around knobs)

    M-Audio Axiom Pro 25 (£225)

(status of knobs shown on screen)

    Novation SL25 Mk2 (£249)

    (has LEDs round some knobs)

The following DOESNT have LED status but would still do ....

    akai mpk25 (£199)

Then theres also the scope for going down the route of getting something thats covered in knobs like the Livid Code (£379)

and just buy a wee keyboard.
truth is i probably WONT be playing keyboard when playing live, just triggering and tweaking.

What is it that other people on QBN use for live performance (In Ableton Live) for their control surfaces?

other JUST Control Surfaces (no keyboards) are

Novation Zero SL mk2 Control Surface (£199)

Akai APC40 Ableton Live Controller (£349)

    i got a APC40 for a year, i'm pretty happy about it.
Still, for live performance i'm using Will marshall DJ template instead of the default interface.

The akai MPK serie sucks, pads are shitty.

    I don't know the others.

Just been out and got my new soundcard at lunch.
Had a play with some controllers, really like the Novation Zero SL mk2 for its small footprint.
And if I want to get a small keyboard with pitch/modulation I reckon i'll go for something like the Korg MicroKey

I opted for the APC40 in the end.
    Reason:
    It's plug-in-and-play with Ableton!
No manuals to read, no mappings to make. You literally plug it in and it works with your set.
Genius the way the pads correspond to the grid area of 10x8 clips/scenes highlighted by a red outline that is shiftable on the device.

Great thing is you can also use another APC40 (or APC20) at the same time. The area this second one represents on the screen is highlighted with another colour of outline.
Allowing control over many more instruments.
