Apologies for the lack of design in this thread, but could use the advice of strangers on the internet :)
I returned over £200 worth of goods to a well known chain of stores this week. When I was in the shop the bloke tried three times to refund the cash back on to my card but the computer kept crashing and he said it didn't go through. On the fourth time it worked.
I just now checked my balance and it actually did go through those three times (win!) so I now have an extra 700+ in my account. Sooooo, what would you do in the same circumstance - spend it ? return ? sit on it ?

Sit on it, but the company will properly do a refund transfer on the balance that should not have got transferred.

Spend it, clearly.

Invest it

RETURN IT,
to my bank account

my heart is saying you should do the "right" thing but my pockets are saying something else

Go and spend it in the same store. Everyone wins.

Spend it in their store then take the goods back. Keep doing this until you're rich.
700x(3^infinity)

Sit on it buddy. No need to go crazy with your new found wealth. They will probably get it back but who knows. Just DON'T SPEND IT thinking its free money!

take it out... And sit on it!

Cheers folks, think i'll sit on it till the new year then. If I ain't heard anything by then its getting spent, help with those January blues.

Buy lottery tickets with it.
Then if you win give em back whatever you 'owe' them.
If you dont win - what you lost - money that wasn't yours?
Buy Buy Buy!

mostly likely the money will be withdrawn once they realise.
if nothing happens after a while, take your £200 off for whatever you want to do with this money.
As the rest is technically 'free' cut a half and give it to charity and use the other half for your good self!

That you're asking shows you most likely have intentions to return it, if you could. Go with your gut. Karma....
- voiceof0
Have some integrity and return it.
However, If for some reason you feel you should be rewarded for acting like a civil human being. Then make a big issue about returning it, you'll look like a dick but Im sure you'll get something free.

I bet that large store will have to close down with it losing £700.
Think of the poor people out of work with Christmas coming up?
Think of their children!
Ahh fuck it buy some lotto tickets.

Just wet your mind at ease and return it. You'll feel better you did. They will be happy, and so will you. Like voiceof said, have some integrity. I am positive something good will happen after you return it.

@MrMackem
Yeah that's how you should view the world, oh and I hope you don't mind but we're pulling $50 out of each of your paychecks I saw you were just blowing it on frivolous things and it's not really going to affect you in any big way.

They may be able to reclaim it for a long while yet (maybe 3 years?). It's not your money, nor is it a gift. It depends on when a discrepancy is spotted and how long it takes someone to figure what happened.
Tell head office about their mistake, ask for a reward for your honesty, suggest 25%.

Just be careful that you don't spend it, and then they take it out, and you end up overdrawn.

Worked Retail before, they always notice this kind of stuff , however not sure overseas, but some banks here will call you to re-authorize the transaction back to them , for all the Bank knows you returned a lot of stuff .... I would return it , scout the customer service for the hottest bird
