I'm starting to rely on DropBox more and more for placing files that I'm going to need to access when I'm not at home, whether they be media projects for school or client projects that I want to work on remotely. But with DropBox going down recently, I'm starting to wonder if I should just set up my own server and use that? Or perhaps MobileMe...
Thoughts? How many of you have your own servers for storage?

having your own server at home is great, but if you don't have a static IP it's a pain, and your upstream is likely slower than a hosts would be, unless you live in Korea or something. I just use a mediatemple server to stash all of my stuff. sure, it goes down now and then, but everything is bound to now and then.

Dropbox is just great.

My hosting company doesn't offer the ease-of-use that mobileMe has. (Shame on you (mt)) combined with Dropbox's free storage service, together compete with mobileMe. Sadly, I don't think I need to pay an additional for mobileMe's $99/yr plan. They need to offer more to people who already have their own servers and dropbox to keep me onboard at that price.

I still us GoToMyPC. Damn slow, but you can drag/drop from one computer to the other, which is quite handy.
For larger files I just use our hosting to FTP it (again via GTMPC), then download it where ever I am.

Dropbox is very very good.
Mobile me sucks. I got burned trying it just for the iDisk and it was horrible. I tried it twice, about 3 years apart and felt ripped.

Whatever happened to having your own website, paying a company for hosting, and just accessing the server via FTP with a un and pw? There are hosting places that have like $5 a month for unlimited everything. Are you simply using DropBox for the drag and drop convenience? I haven't used DropBox yet, is it really 'that' convenient over using FTP/your site?
