i designed some things for a client, passed off the files.
but haven't heard back for a month. nothing.
I'm not worried about getting paid, as theyre a friend of a old friend, but what do you do in this situation?
again, its not about the money, it would be nice to just talk about it, work on it more. I want them to be happy and get something out of it.
I don't know if I should wait longer or follow-up

^ agreed.
there's really only 2 choices.
1) do nothing.
2) follow up.- <zenmasterfoo

- yes! you have to learn how to self produce. the client won't produce themselves always.shellie
- interesting idea "learn how to self produce" .... can you elaborate?vaxorcist

Follow up! You should have followed up right after you passed off the files. And again after that...

sometimes i'll write and let them know that i'm continuing onto the next phase of the design and if they have any input to get it to me by a certain time. that usually gets them hopping. and/or, send them a bill.

argh, this happens, you don't exist for a while in clients mind.... then busy client suddenly notices something "wrong" fifteen minutes before printing deadline and asks you "fix it" when it's often a conceptual disagreement, not a "wrong" item, but client may think it's "just like a typo... using these wrong colors and logos and shapes... can't you make this photo vertical?!?"
This may mean that you're out of sight, out of mind.... till a moment of surprise....

Follow up with some times that you won't be available.
This makes them put your work on the calendar and not on the back burner.

"I'm not worried about getting paid, as theyre a friend of a old friend..."
This makes it LESS likely that you'll get paid.

The guy is waiting for you to call, because he has more work for you! (How can you have a client you don't touch base with for a month? You gotta keep in touch with these folks, if only to keep pumping them for work.)

you waited 3 weeks too long.
Give the fellas a call.By leaving the project a month on hold it doesn't only show that they give a shit about what you are doing, it also shows that you give a shit.
