Say what you will 'bout him, the boy lays down the sweetest solo... (@ 3:29)

One of my favourite guitar players. Most people (perhaps those who didn't see or forgot Purple Rain) don't even know he can hold a guitar, let alone have this sort of skill... Not just technical, but musical in the first place.

don't forget this cat can ball too.

I can't play a instrument, but I do love it when people are passionate in what they do.

Good to see Prince again. Sounded ok. Sounds like Carlos gave him some lessons.
- Na... I dig Santana but Prince has always played this kind of guitar.ItTango
- Closer to John McLaughlin than Carlos, I think.ItTango

So Prince replaced Roy Orbison?

Prince is a great songwriter, singer and all rounder. But I can't say I liked or was impressed with that solo. Plus he took way too many bars, far too long, pretty selfish. Would be fine if the solo developed as it went along, with some ideas but it was just noodling, not even really playing over the changes particularly well.
I saw prince live a few years ago and he was awesome, his band was great, Maceo Parker on sax. just don't dig his guitar in that video all that much

Prince is a genius.

Sounds like a pretty standard issue guitar solo that just follows the chord progression and melody.

anyone seen him live? trying to get tickets to see in oakland, but i have a feeling i don't stand a chance.

the only time I saw him live was one of those unannounced secret shows after his regular concert. We went from a sold out coliseum to a 1200 person theater with only about 500 people. Played from midnight to 3am with a full band including Maceo Parker and only played half a Prince song. It was probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to and I'm not really that big of fan of that type of music.
- this is how a concert should be enjoyed,

Saw him at MSG in December - amazing, even if it was a stadium gig.
