Too often, when bringing in a pdf from a client into Illustrator to either make edits or extract copy, the words, or worse, individual characters come in as separate objects. This seems like a fairly common occurrence and so I thought there might be some tools in these tubes to fix this. Does anyone know of anything?

Open as a PDF then copy and paste the text from the PDF doc to your Illustrator doc.

At this moment, a pdf we are trying to work with has been exported from the architectural program, Revit; which we don't have access to. If it were anything else, copy and paste would work just fine.

if you want it to be editable after saving it has to be explicitly saved as editable, otherwise as knuckleberry said, you have to open it in acrobat and copy the text out and save it in a new doc.

I found this script and it seems to be doing the trick.

hmm, that script merges them all, but the layout isn't retained if it's multiline. oh well, useful in some situations.

i think i'd trust copy & paste before a script.
would imagine there's a high risk of sentences/paragraphs getting mixed up, unless it's just a basic block of text... in which case C&P works fine.
