I have been asked to shoot photos an interior for a magazine, they want a per image + entire session quote. Typically I shoot for friends and for myself and really don't have set fees. What are some standard rates for this type of work.
thanks

Is that price in the low - mid - high range ?

do you have all the stuff? or will you be renting lights, etc.

I suggest that you quote them for a full day only, in other words not per image.
Good luck!

traut, read this post:

it may illuminate things for you. in short, the answer is very complicated and you better do a lot, and i mean a lot, of research and estimating every detail of your shoot before you can come up with a realistic bid.
- I've seen this but need to be reminded again... I have a couple of friends who help me with estimates....vaxorcist

Do you have to supply props, location permits, studio, or do they?
Is it higher-end work for the beginning of a campaign?
Is it lower-budget corporate-publication editorial use, i.e. you show up for 45 minutes at a location with some businessman standing in front of a big shiny machine, your job is to do 5 images, 3 of him, 2 of product?
- Harrington's site lists USAGE, not creative fee or expenses on this page.... read carefullyvaxorcist

Only skip the per image price if you're giving up ownership of the work. Otherwise, it's a magazine and your prints account for a huge portion of what's going on.
Don't give it away unless you're earning enough on the day rate that you don't care what happens afterwards.

Note that many publications may have what they call a "standard contract" which is something low like $750/day including expenses and all image rights, and you are held liable for any and all misrepresentations and lawsuits tied in any way to the images, the APA and ASMP urge you to read carefully and cross out legaleze that holds you responsible for their actions and to always negotiate.

And as if you need more to think about: consider the client. Is this prime portfolio work (magazine with great circulation) from which you will garner more work? If so, you may just go with the contract vax just referenced.
Otherwise... negotiate!
