Just saw the last episode last night since I didnt have power when it aired. Definitely some good stuff in it.
This season is definitely less about predictable gangster action and its really more just taking its time with various character development and plot lines, which really is how the entire series has been anyway. There hasnt been a ton of action or anything in any season. It's really just sprinkled in here and there to make a greater impact when it does happen so basically there's heavy tension in every scene around the action stuff.
I am guessing though that in season 4 they are going to get more into the rise of Luciano and Capone, and of course when that happens theres going to have to be more action. You can already see with Capone he isnt happy just serving Johnny Torrio anymore. They are setting it up like Capone is gonna off him, which wouldnt be true to history, although the show is straying from that a little with some of these real characters.

okay, this episode was way better. the only thing is, it took 8 episodes to get here, and it was kind of surprising to seeing where Nucky's future is headed now.
and I still feel like there were too many unnecessary characters that they had focused on earlier.
- i like it cause you get attached to them then they get ousted.74LEO

To everyone hating on Season 3 for taking its time to tie things together, this week's episode should prove to be the catalyst you're after. Holy living fuck.

I think the criticism is wrong. It would have been easy to have produced a typical gangster show with predictable plotlines, shootouts and explosions but the writers decided to take it in a different direction which is refreshing. Totally different pace and writing style than something like Breaking Bad so why compare.
- 1000% agree
Ramanisky2 - Yes.
Better comparison: Mad Men.e-wo

That AV article just seemed like an overly enthusiastic episode recap with no insight other than Easter and new beginnings. :(

I feel like they hit a wall with some of the characters. Also, there's no overall stories developing other then the nucky vs other gangsters, which is in every season. Basically what twooh said.

Surprised to see crickets chirping here. This week's episode was one of the finest of the entire series.
Very fine thoughts from the AV Club:

i finally watched season 1 episode 1 & 2... i'm still tapping my fingers. nothing going on. it looks pretty lame. now breaking bad!!! there's a TV show. flew through season 1-5 fast.... disappointed because i liked steve buscemi better in those, crazy, nutty type roles. Not no business gangster.

This season has just been horrible. All these character storylines that aren't going anywhere. One could argue that this is merely 'character development', but by the 7th episode, there should be something that viewers can speculate for the season finale.
The story is non-existent. I mean really, Gyp talks his way out of getting whacked? It was so out of character. The Gyp they had developed would have killed off Joe, instead of bend over in submission and fear.
7-episodes, and most of these plotlines aren't closing or merging. How mundane.

This last episode was slow.

umm!
What was that all about?
Starting to see a lil too much ball bag! Did get to see Jimmy's mums nipples.Look like the writers went on strike and all the actors got to write themselves back into the show.
At least next week it looks good. Maybe he made a connection with the guy in prison. Hmmm

You should be able to see me a couple of times in Season 3. I worked for 13 years in production and crossed over to acting in NYC.
I was a resident in the Tambor Heights Scenes... and you should be able to see me when the main actresses is handing out flyers on the boardwalk!
The boardwalk is an amazing set. Tambor Heights scenes are shot in Historic Richmond Town on Staten Island.
If I was still in NYC, I would still want to work on the show... but I moved to Europe!

The one thing I dont like about this show....the intro music. It just doesn't fit the show at all.
- you must stop watching the show thenRamanisky2
- Always felt the same way. The music doesnt fit well like the Sopranos music did for that show.CygnusZero4
- I always fast forward through it. It's too weird and heady.smrz
