Dropbox upload tricks

I just noticed a strange thing happen for the second time: I put a rather large file for upload to Dropbox (800mb) and it was online in about a minute.
The upload rate of my internet connection is so slow I should have been expecting this to take hours. What happened? My hypothesis is they are checking uploaded files' checksums against files on other users' accounts and use those files if checksums match. So they saw someone else had that file and just copied it into my folder. A technically doable trick and would've saved them plenty of bandwidth.
In this case, it wasn't a unique file, chances were someone uploaded it before to their account.
Any other ideas?<shameless>
BTW, if anyone is looking to register with Dropbox, you can use my link and we both enjoy extra free disk space

"The files are analyzed before the upload and if the same file was already uploaded before, by you or another person, then the file will not be uploaded again. This happens for popular files all the time, like movies, mp3 and so on.
Dropbox will chop the files in 1MB chunks and will take the checksum of each part, compare it and will then decided if the upload was already done before. That is what you can read in other post. It will compare with all the files in the whole Dropboxes which increases the chance that the file was already uploaded before."

*thinks.. what if they got a bit more fuzzy with this? Maybe I would be OK with a logo that close-enough matches the one I designed, or photos of friends that look roughly like my friends? (composited from other peoples friends photos). So maybe they could have a quality preferences slider: 'Max Speed <--> Max File Authenticity'
