Anyone got any experience in this regard?
Just wondering if there're any useful How-Tos or guides on the internet, or obvious pitfalls I might avoid.
Ta!

(My client is speaking with a supplier at the moment, I'm sat here working through sketches of concepts. Hopefulyl I'll get the chance to speak with the manufacturer in a couple of days - just looking for advice and hints right now, ta!)

- if its exposed neon then run with it as is.
If it is in a cabinet then:
- make sure the text or any graphic has at least 1" to 1 1/2" of clearance for the neon to pass thru.
- make sure the depth of the cabinet (or letter) is at least 3" deep.
- you can use LED to do some of the same things check out: http://www.sloanled.com/ , for insight.- led def the way to go- easier for everyone! and better color/longer lasting, not as easy to break.bjladams

Thanks very much, knuckleberry - I don't suppose you've any experience with working with neon in a vaguely 3D form, have you? Client wants a wireframe-esque portrayel of a relatively simple geomwetric form, but I'm concerned about the underlying structure and how on Earth it would be achieved.
Your notes on cabinet-ising are veh pertinent to the way this thing'll attach, so thankyou!
- no 3d forms sorry. Take a look at what Paula Scher did at Pentagram for Grey.Knuckleberry

Without going in to detail, I get why they want neon - it's got a lot to do with their overall branding and the specific form of the 'light tubes'. LEDs were the first thing I mentioned to them too :)
That said, I am encouraging them to enquire about Cold Cathodes too.
- ...and yeah, Neon craftsmanship isn't bloody cheap, either!detritus

i use a local guy do do ours- bends it by hand and welds the frames, works out of his shed- lot harder to deal with than the commercial cos, but he does a good job. can put you thru to him if you want- he know's it well.
- Hmm, s'ok, thanks, I'll muddle along for now and try and talk with our guy direct. Ta for the responses though!detritus
