I need to get a smart phone because I can't check my email at the location I'm working at now. Is around $30 per month for a data plan and email pretty much the standard? Has anyone been able to talk their way into a better deal for this? $30 a month for 2 years seems high to me just to check email.

I'm on Rogers up here in Canaduh and I pay $30 for 6GB a month. Which I thought was a decent price.
- i think that has to do with there is like 6 to pick from. more competition.akrok
- here in the states. there like 3. lol.akrok
- Yeah, we used to only have Bell, Rogers & Telus, now there's these other providers.Andrew_D
- Mobilicity, Wind, & Public mobile, but they're all shit.Andrew_D
- No, I think there were less before. Maybe the prices are going down b/c there are more, but they joined recently. $30 seems low.juhls
- seems low.juhls
- I pay more for extra stuff I don't need, and it's overly complicated when I try to speak to customer service. VM is best with pay-as-you-go.juhls
- with pay-as-you-go, but not sure about regular contracts.juhls
- Pay-as-you-go is a scam, at least it used to be. None of them are good.Andrew_D
- I've just been with Rogers so long (9 years) that I get loyalty deals and free shit all the time.Andrew_D
- jolly good.akrok

Anyone know of cheaper options if you just want email? I've heard people brag that they've gotten things like data for free when out of contract and renewing but I'm not sure if that is really common.
