I like the posters but I don't like Krop
- JSK0
funny, I have the opposite opinion.
- fooler20
I would like to see the posters you did for Ministry and Ministry.

It says you specialize in Art Direction, Design, Branding & Illustration, but all I see are a bunch of event posters which would pretty much all fall under the category "design." Then to confuse things even more you have a section at the bottom called posters.
If you're gonna use words to describe yourself, they should mean something, right? Don't listen rattle off a list of words because they sound good.
- did you have to be so harsh?SoulFly
- Was that really harsh? I didn't even comment on his actual work, I was just making a point about the terms used.ukit
- not harsh, he makes a pointifeltdave
- "then to confuse things even more" you make it sound the person is a disaster...SoulFly
- pretty sure this is just honest critique, the truth only hurts for a while...NONEIS
- The truth will set you free SoulFly...ukit

My job description was Art Director while I did this work. Although I worked on many companies that where offshoots of a single company.
For each of these I had to develop individual brands, logos, Illustrations, posters, brochures- you name it. Not trying to sound like a super hero but these were all skills i had to use daily

RE: mnmlst, I'm confused why you would state 'spam' for this thread. I don't claim to be a copywriter and people do seem to be criticizing my writing and descriptive skills here more than anything else. I believe I did some good work in the past few years with minimal resources, F**k all support, Insane deadlines and pressure from many clients in an In-House position. Maybe I didn't choose the right work to sample on Krop. But check out www.portfoliojody.com for a fuller taste (if anyone else would like to suggest better work `i could showcase please do)
Here's who I worked simultaneously for during the last few years. If you still think i didn't have to use the skills of Art Direction, Design, Branding, Photography & Illustration you can go Spam yourself.Whelan's Venue, Whelans Upstairs,
The Village Venue,
Andrews Lane Theatre,
Foggy Notions + Foggy Notions Magazine,
Forever Presents,
The Future Days Festival,
MCD,
Vicar Street Venue,
Drowned In Sound,
Phantom FM,
León Cafes,
The Brian Boru Hotel and Venue.
And more and more...

I think the work is good. You just need to work on the taxonomy of the site. Gets kind of confusing. Good Luck.

To Amicus ,one thing I forgot to say to you say was Go F**k yourself.
Also why have so many people trolled on this thread, I think I made some good work under tough working conditions. Whats all the hate for?
Thank you for the constructive criticism from the people I know are serious pros. I know who you are as I lurk on QBN daily. This thread I have to admit caused me upset...
Does nobody else here have to work at Art Direction, Design, Branding, Photography & Illustration etc simultaneously. Am I the only one?
- monospaced0
^ dude? A ton of us have work in art direction, design, branding, photography and illustration (simultaneously) and those guys up there are just fucking around.
- ukit0
Hey moop, don't take it personal man, we all have to weather criticism in this business. You started the post by saying you wanted feedback and criticism so we provided some. What's with this whole wounded pride, "my work is good under tough circumstances" shtick? Everyone has room to get better and once your work is really unassailably good I'm sure people will tell you that.
- monospaced0
I think my biggest criticism...and don't take this the wrong way...is that the groupings of work don't feel like they belong together. Now, I get that it's totally eclectic and all that, but in the end you didn't create a "look & feel" that say, Forever, could claim (other than their logo). As an art director who specializes in branding and all that, it really seems like a bunch of design thrown together. It's not bad, it's not great, but it doesn't feel like a system right now. That beings said, I like a few pieces in there a lot, seriously, especially your identities which feel somewhat hidden and could definitely be at the forefront of your portfolio. Cheers.

That's a good point, but in his defense these kinds of posters are often more about the band than promoting the venue. And if I saw any of these walking around town plastered on a wall or street light somewhere I'd probably think they were pretty good. If I needed a poster done for my band I'd probably hire the guy.
But that gets back to the whole "Design, Art Direction, Branding and Illustration" thing. If what you're shooting for is a job where you take on a wide range of projects and skills, it makes sense to present your work in a way that highlights that flexibility. Seeing a bunch of posters and magazine spreads in a very similar format gives the exact opposite impression. Separate the illustrations out, separate the brands out (i.e., logo against neutral bg along with some applications) and be creative in the presentation. No need to show the work exactly as it originally appeared.
- Yes, show off the Foggy notion "system" you have going on and how that works with the art.monospaced
- Separately. That would be a nice breakdown.monospaced
