wow I dont know what to have trouble believing first, any help?
here are my options.a) this thread is from 2010
b) the kindle is not only still around but they are releasing version 3
c) I'm all for the retro look, but why the retro functionality? If I wanted retro, I can still buy books (which I don't necessarily consider them retro just yet)

i love to read books by simply holding those in my hand so i never actually understood the appeal of ebook. plus don't let me start with an over sized iphone with no keyboard (ipad) - this i can't comprehend for shit.

What an obsolete product. Just look at the damn thing. Looks like it was made in the 1980's along with this thing:
Spend the extra money for an iPad and get the additional gajillion features that thing has. Oh, and it has color. What is this the fucking 50's or something? I can't believe some things are still being made in black & white.
- go read some research and figure out what eInk is. It's a better design for READING.zarkonite
- i just did some research. the findings are inconclusive and the iPad is super cool.iCanHasQBN
- it's not meant to be a multi-task device. Serious readers don't need a gazillion distractions.monkeyshine
- no such thing as gazillion. it's gajillion.iCanHasQBN
- < you can watch a movie, text and talk while reading a book. lol.akrok
- Serious readers read papers man, don't even try to bring that up cause no one is buying itMiguex
- you dont have to do all that stuff WHILE reading a book.iCanHasQBN

pr2, when I see people using either product, I think...
"Hey look at me, my iPad proves that I'm hip and savvy, even though I use less than 20% of it's capabilities."
"Hey look at me, my Kindle proves that I'm an avid fan of literature, not just a stay-at-home-mom."Neither are products of true functionality.

I'm a sucker for gadgets and recently bought myself a NOOK.
So far it's an interesting device. It's nice to have a lot of books in one place, which comes in handy when I'm going to work and can't decide on a good book to bring. The eInk display is very easy on your eyes and perfect for reading. My brother asks "but there's no color?" My answer is that color will only serve to distract from the device's main function, which is a platform for literature.
I just hope this device doesn't die off and I'm left with an unsupported device that has been abandoned by it's makers. :\
- ebooks aren't going awaymonkeyshine
- I actually think the nook look pretty good, I saw it at a barns&noble, how much are they?Miguex

soon kindle will be free and you'll have to pay only for the books

Is the Kindle 3 good for PDFs? I have plenty of material in PDF format and I hate reading books on the computer.

Does the battery last longer on Kindle?

Is this a different kind of iPad?

for the ones that are against the kindle and the ebook readers, just a few thoughts
if you read quite a lot, it's def convenient:
- you save space at home
- you save quite a few quid against buying normal books
- it's really good for commuting and you can carry more than a book at a time
- battery last agesThe screen is black and white BECAUSE it is meant to give optimum contrast even in direct sunlight.
You can't compare it with an ipad. And if you do, surely you will be way better of with one.
If you read more than 15 pages, and mostly books, you will love it. If you want to scan through mags, and check your facebook every 30 secs, go for the ipad... Also get a fixie, a pair of skinnies, and steal your auntie's jumper.
