Hello folks, my eyedropper is picking the color and setting is as background color. it annoys me having to go switch it every time... and I think it's stupid not to know how did this automatically happened and not to know how to make the color get set as foreground... how do I set it to pick the the color as foreground? I tried shortcuts, ps preferences, tool preferences, nada... arrgh

select the foreground swatch in the color palette (it'll have a black outline around it)

*slaps face.
thanks plash
Caps lock was the problem: it was turned on - when pressing the option key for the eyedropper while working with the brush tool

i think you're mistaken, caps lock doesn't have anything to do with fore/background. option/alt will reverse what's selected based on what swatch is active in the color palette

I think it's a question of shortcuts -
When I'm working with the brush tool, and when I press the alt/option key, I get the eyedropper to pick the brush color. because caps lock was active, it was automatically picking a background color instead of the foreground color (even if the color swatch is above)..- sorry, I didn't make myself clear - the issue was on the process of swapping through brush / eyedropperkodap

what PS version? it doesn't work that way for me in CS4. caps lock just toggles the icon.

let me re-phrase this:
- I'm using the brush tool, and I want to swap the color immediately by keeping "alt" pressed - this switches to the eyedropper tool without having to move my cursor to select it from the tools panel.- at this moment (while alt is pressed), when I click on any region of my canvas, the eyedropper picks the color, supposed to be the foreground, but it picks the color into the background swatch, instead of the foreground swatch... so this was my issue... and now I have resolved the issue, thinking that the caps lock key activated was the cause for this, but apparently it's not.
I'm glad it worked, and it's back to normal, but now I'm not sure if it was the actual solution....

I did that, but for some intriguing reason it wasn't working...
