Does anyone know what brand of re-writable DVDs will ACTUALLY re-write? I've tried Toast 7, upgraded to Toast 10, tried reformatting (which couldn't be done).
I don't think it's a software issue. I was able to burn these SONY discs in the first place.
I've looked up quite a few forums that left the same question unanswered.
I have a Mac Pro from Dec. 2007 Dual Core running Snow Leopard with a Super Drive.

go to apple menu, select "about this mac". click "more info" button. select "disc burning". this will tell you what discs the firmware on your drive supports. if it says -RW and +RW, then your drive can do it, the kind of RW disc shouldn't matter. to rewrite a disc, you need to erase it first, open disc utility, select the disc and do a quick erase.

I have Toast 6 Titanium and I get burn a thing!

your discs need to be -RW then, there's a difference between +RW and -RW.
if they are -RW, and disc utility doesn't work, maybe try toast under recorder > erase?
also note, a rewritable disc is only writable a finite number of times, it will eventually fail when you try to erase.
- Typically re-writable 20-25 times. But that was regular CD/DVD, not sure about BR.ETM

you can also try permanent eraser:

actually i'd agree w/ cybrain, not just an +/- RW issue, some brands definitely work better than others. used to notice it frequently with CDRWs.

Taiyo Yuden is a good brand, they make discs for other people too. Verbatim are also generally good.
But DVD media is cheap these days, why piss about with reusing them? Just get a new one.

I agree, don't use them. They are that much more susceptible to data loss/damage because of the data layer being able to be essentially melted and rewritten by the drive. Its not as durable.
