itunes store question

Does anyone know why itunes prevents you from buying stuff from stores other than the one in your own country? It was the first time I'd managed to get to another location's store (Sweden) and found a ton of stuff by a long time favorite band that I didn't know about. Thought I'd be able to buy it, but as soon as I logged in it redirected me to the US site, where the albums don't exist as imports.
Any reason for this? Seems stupid - it's a fucking song/album - but maybe there's something about imports and pricing.

always bugged me too, i cant think of a good reason why its the case

Sometimes music is only licensed to be sold in some country or part of the world.

ukit is correct, this really has nothing to do with itunes and everything to do with the rights holders of the music, copyright and license laws differ between countries. any online store has the same restrictions. your only outside chance is to buy a gift card from sweden and create an account redeeming that card and using a swedish address. this is very much against the terms of service of course, but it would possibly work. or just bittorrent that shit and stick it to the man.

if i recall, when the itunes store activated in the us, it took approx a year to also become available in canada. once upon a time.

I wonder if you could order it via mail order??

can you not just order it in as a cd from an online retailer? like possibly > www.recordpalace.com

If you can't find it here...

Yeah in the days before itunes and mp3's people always wanted to get their hands on Japanese versions of CD albums as they often had more bonus material that wasn't licensed in other countries. Presume it is still the same

just throwing this one out there but does the band have a site and do they sell stuff through it (ideal) or recommend online retailers like amazon, etc?
