The Pixies are an American alternative rock band that formed in Boston in 1986.While the Pixies found only modest success in their home country, they were significantly more successful in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe, although never achieving mainstream success with their studio albums.
The band's style of alternative rock music is heavily influenced by punk and indie rock, and while highly melodic, is capable of being abrasive at the same time.
The group is frequently posited as the immediate forebear of the alternative rock boom of the 1990s, though they disbanded before reaping any of the benefits this might have brought them.[2] Avowed fan Kurt Cobain's acknowledgement of the debt Nirvana owed to the Pixies,[3] along with similar tributes by other alternative bands, ensured that the Pixies' legacy and influence grew substantially in the years following their demise.

i still think Kim Deal looks like a super lesbian. Their stage presence is very fade. But their music is great.

I saw them on their comeback tour when they played in Tampa, FL. It was a great show. Brought back a lot of high school, early college, 90's grunge/alt memories.

benfal99, will you be my friend? I have always looked for someone who love the Pixies as I have, and never have......
I have always said that the Pixies were the greatest rock band after the Beatles. I love the Pixies. They released almost NO weak tracks. It is almost impossible to describe what makes them great anymore than it is to describe why the Beatles were great. Individually they were all ok, but together as Pixies they were magic. What made their music so great? When you listen to something like 'Digging for Fire' - it's so simple and beautiful, its not punk not even rock n roll, its like folk music. But songs like 'UMass' or 'Palace of the Brine' are more scorthing than any thrash, punk, or whatever....and you are right, Benfal99, 'Where is my mind' is an amazing song. Poetry.

David Lovering, the drummer, is so underrated. Very good drummer.

and the guitarist? Joey Santiago? he is so important to their sound.
All of them together.
But I do not believe Kim is lesbian. She is very hetero. Why would she write 'Gigantic'?

First time i heard "Something Against You", it was after Nirvana, I was in shock... I was like, fuck man, this is Nirvana before Nirvana!

you know, it is some combination of beautiful melodies and the craft of song writing and guitar playing and drumming and being completely out of left field crazy and weird at moments when you least expect it. You really never know what to expect. But it always makes you feel good.
