  ok dont all shout at me, i dont use Illy much like you lot.

  but how do i convert an eps to paths? does it have to be saved with clipping paths already embedded in or something?

  are you talking about embedding an image? or outlining type?

  i mean if i have an .eps, and i open in illustrator, can i convert it to paths without doing a live trace? as in, does an eps retain its 'path knowledge' ?

  if it's an illy eps it will open with all paths intact as normal. if it's a PS eps bitmap then you will need to do live trace

  right, maybe its a ps eps then. basically i just needed a stock vector, but i found an eps one. so it doens seem to have paths. i just want a little bit of the image in the stock eps
