I was torn between the EVO and iPhone. I ultimately went with the iPhone mostly because of the iPhone's longer battery life and better camera for stills and video.
I went to Japan with this in hand and it pretty much sealed the deal for me. Battery lasted all day and then some even after taking a load of video and photos. the photos are stunning as is the video (although the video could stand to benefit from some kind of optical or digital stabilization)
lastly, facetime was an incredible way to keep in touch with the family back home. wifi in the room was $10/day. wayyyy cheaper than the $2.29/voice minute ATT wanted to charge me for use oveseas.

I have the 3G for two years and love it. My wife just got the 4 and loves it - except she claims her dropped calls have increased. I always had problems with her old one dropping calls too - I reckon it's an ATT problem.
The new iPhone is a class act though. I will be forking out the $200 and resigning a 2 year contract really soon as the speed of the OS and processor etc is soooo much faster comparged to my 3G Also, the screen res is amazing / camera is great / and shoots video.
Buy it. As Steve says - "if you don't like it, bring it back"

^ Heres another way to save on battery. Close the apps that are running in the background via the Multitasking bar.
Use the Multitasking bar to close any app you want. Here’s how:
– Double tap the Home button to bring up the Multitasking bar
– Press and hold anywhere on the multitasking bar until the icons on it start to wiggle.
– While they are wiggling, each icon has a Minus sign symbol above it.
– Press the Minus symbol above any app to close it down.
That’s it. This will work for any app you want to close, including the Apple built-in apps like Mail and Safari etc.- Thanks 404 thats exactly what I'm am doing as per my above postKidswift

Had it for a week now and really like it, battery seems to go after a day of use which is a little worrying when Its only a week old. So to preserve you really have to constantly shut down all the apps which keep running due to the multitasking shenanigans going on... but its an intuitive beautiful little fucker. I'm just paranoid about dropping it or getting mugged when I'm out drunk now...
- If you dont use your spotlight feature at that much turn it off. Saved my battery by 10x almost.iheartfun

I'm liking my iphone4 a lot. But I had a shitty Nokia fone before. I haven't had an issue with reception with or without a case. The screen is simply an incredible step forward from the previous 3GS.

I know HTC will sync with itunes after the forthcoming update, that's a key feature.
After all I've said my wife's just gone out to get her iphone, so I might be making the move back so we can use the terribly named 'face time'!

The exact same thing happened to me and it seems like this weekend, I had a 3G and I am thinking of switching to an Android phone.
It sounds like everyone is happy with their iphone 4 and I have not yet found a phone that works seamlessly with itunes or that comes with a larger hard drive.
does anyone know any alternatives?

There is a theory that only a batch of iPhones came without an invisible shielding antenna layer, due to a production error.

No, I made a lot on the iphone though!

i love my 4.
i think it's largely because i had a shitty blackberry before - and i only have macs, thus the mobileme / itunes / seamlessness of it still astounds me.
camera is badass. went to marfa for a weekend and only used the phone - the photos are killer.

I love it. Had the 3G before, so this was a big improvement. Aside from the occasional dropped call, everything about the phone is excellent.

I had an iphone 4, sold it and bought an HTC. The HTC is better in almost every way.

AT&T works pretty much fine everywhere i go in L..A. if that helps at all. Esp. eastside.

no problems here. every time i try a andriod it just feels so clunky. i swipe, it thinks, it slides rough, things just dont feel as smooth and polished as iOS.
- iron_condor0
i have Verizon right now
is AT&T that shitty or the 3G phone itself?
- utopian0
If the iPhone 4 runs any slower than the 3G or drops as many call as the 3G I would recommend buy a few.

if i had some extra money i'd buy the ipad
loved using that at the apple store
- I'll wait for the 2 gen, multitasking and camera. Hopefully. :)mattiaBK

cool. after reading all this i feel better about ordering. i've been without a phone for a week. 1-2 weeks to go. how the hell did people live before cell phones? i feel stranded.
- You'll be fine, and then everything will change! ;-)mattiaBK
