How about you split the idea. Show your work with their company in their format on half the page while highlighting your CI guidelines on the other. Brands you and brands them.

It's a one-two punch isn't it? You pitch a direction (or directions) you could take their brand, as incentive for them to give you the AOR job.

You want to show that "you get it"
What do you know about them? Are there any semi-industry standard expectations within their industry? Check out their competitors websites for a bit of a clue....
If they are in a tightly controlled anal-retentive industry, getting it may mean attention to their details, specs, etc....
If they are startup-like, or innovation minded, then getting it means wowing them with gutsy risk taking blow-me-away innovation...
I think this particular "issue" may not be the real thing to worry about... it seems in a pitch we often pay massive attention to things that matter very little... and hopefully pay at least enough attention to what really matters, but finding out what really matters is the hard part, so don't let minor things force you into a detour...

Both dangerous approach. The company may get offended quite easily.

People tend to get attached to the idea in the pitch even if its just a pitch concept.
People cant seem to get over the idea even if its a pitch.
Present what it could be, not what it should be.

Sell the dream and partner to bring it to life.

Invoke visuals in their mind with words, not with pictures.

Don't tell the client what they are doing wrong, tell them how they can dream.

Confidence isn't something you can show, it is something you enable.

A three-pronged approach on their receptionist.

it's your pitch, not theirs...

Holding their CI in a way that it doesn't touch anything is your only safe method.
