Price for the Idea?

  Submitted mock-ups with taglines for a branding project. The clients loved the work but as it turns out, I was competing with a firm they have on retainer.

  Now (due to some contractual BS), they want the other firm to develop the campaign using my ideas. They have agreed to pay me, but I'm curious: What does one charge for the concepts that will become the basis for an entire branding initiative... on which one will not be working?

  Thoughts?
