death of a MacBook Pro

So a couple weeks ago I accidentally killed off my MacBook Pro in the space of a few seconds by spilling a glass of water on the keyboard.
Following the "expert advice" out there I let it dry out for a long time. After exactly four days I turned it on, and amazingly, it worked perfectly - except suddenly the battery wouldn't charge from the AC power supply. I took the next couple hours to get anything worthwhile off the thing, and then it died again as the battery ran out of juice.
About a week later, I finally had a chance to take a look at it again, and after learning some key combos to reset the "SMC" and then the "PRAM" I was finally able to get it to boot to the desktop. But this only worked with no battery for some reason.
So my question is, now that I finally have the thing turned on, is there anything I can do with the actual software settings that could possibly "reset" or fix the power management? (I was ready to let the thing die, but now that the whole saga has gone on this long I'm kind of determined to see it through)

you could probably change out the power units and battery and be back to normal... just a wild guess.

someone might have a more brilliant suggestion but do you think it might help to time machine it and then wipe it completely, fresh install, time machine back to normal? in other words, start fresh with the os?

I guess the AC adaptor would have to be OK since it shows green and is powering the machine...so that narrows it to either the battery or (more likely IMO) the machine itself. I'll have the Apple store people take a look at it this weekend, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some obvious step that could potentially fix something like this.
