I have an old PC laying around that I want to put linux on. What's a good free version?
Also, the computer is about 4-5 years old. Will I run into driver issues?
Thanks!

im running three distro's on an old PC lappy....
as a die hard mac user i have found "linux-mint" to be my fav so far. im also running peppermint and ubuntu10.4... the Mint distro is what i boot into most. all are debian/ubuntu distro's.
In the past i have installed many other KDE and Gnome versions in the past... DamnSmallLinux, Slackware, Frugalware, Goblinx, Vector Linux and Dreamlinux and the only one i would go back to after those experimental installs is dreamlinux.

i ask in a very serious way.
why?
the only reason i can think of is if you don't want to pay for or steal software, but don't mind running something not quite as compatible.

I have a Windows XP product key, but it doesn't work with the install disk I have — I think it's an OEM disk / retail product key problem.
I already have Parallels (Windows XP) running on my Macbook Pro, so it would be nice to have Linux so I can test in every possible browser if needed.
Really though the only people who use the computer are friends who come over and want to check their facebook, or get online for something.
