How do you use it? Import all images or just the folder that you're working on then export them? Or does it import like iphoto and store them in it's own system?
- inkpink0
not like iphoto - you chose where you would like to build your Lightroom library.

i unload everything on camera via lightroom import to lightroom library. all raw edits saved to library files. "virtual copies" are your best friend for specific tweaks and image play. only export images (to jpeg, tiff) when i need them, save those to specific project folders (outside of library).

Always make a Database for each project, dont mix your photos...
- Atkinson0
how do you do that?

File->New Catalog. Sorry, I should have said Catalog. In other words, every shoot should have its own, this helps with organization, potability, lessens corruption possibilities and doesn't slow down LR.
- inkpink0
sure new catalog every project if you're a photographer working on jobs daily.
... but that's a little bit overkill for personal or portfolio shots.
- new catalog every year or so is fine for my use.inkpink

how do you search across multiple catalogs? say you wanted to quickly find something you shot last year, what options do you have?
- None that I know of.ArmandoEstrada
- Sorry, I keep speaking from a pro perspective.ArmandoEstrada
- it was rhetorical question, as starting a new catalog for every shoot is ridiculous********
- oh.
*crestfallen*
damn. i was hoping this would solve lightroom's shitty speed problems.bigtrick - ...problems.bigtrick

Love lightroom, but not a fan of it's cataloging ifyou have multiple hard drives it can get confused... if anyone has tips I'd be happy to hear them..

Is there any benefit to it if I have PS and ACR at the moment?
- kalkal0
fullscreen editing, dual screen support, cataloging and many more. Which I can't think of at the minute.
- Atkinson0
Full screen and collections can be done in bridge / acr?

Still playing with LR. Thinking about print. LR doesn't work with CMYK? so you have to edit an image, save in RGB then convert to CMYK in PS, is that correct? Seems daft LR won't use CMYK?

what's the difference between Catalog, folders and collections in LR?
