has anyone published a white paper here?
I am writing a white paper on the subject of branding and onomatopoeia. I wanted to know if people have had success with publishing to magazines on the subject of design/branding/web/software etc.
NOTE: I am aware of the rolling paper, toilet paper jokes that are on their way.

Target a publishing outlet and write around it.
A generic paper does not get you anywhere esp when you are not in position to do peer review.

it makes for good placebo on a site when someone is looking to hire me and there are available pdf downloads though. whether or not someone reads it is heresay but to have at least attempted it is a step toward consideration.
- why would you need a placebo when doing a white paper********

a white paper without validation (or for a client / work) is rather suspect.
Just blog about it. Moment you say white paper, you need validation.

hmm true. then lose "white paper" and put "article"? article is a lot less alarming and subject to less criticism.
thanks jsk

Will do. It's a pop culture paper anyone can read and relate, not just designers or advertisers.

Look in to what PSFK has done.
Their articles were more or less a commentary.
Over time they have built that in to white paper or research paper.

Good luck. I have written white paper / research paper under the name of clients / work / project. Not meant to be published.
Work with few PhDs and other academias and they take the notion of white papers seriously.
