you could try and make the skyline the background with a different pic or illustration.. and leave the banner for headlines..

Simple, no fuss, I like it -- but agreed with twokids, is missing something.
The header spacing seems all off. Title and Call Today should be aligned together, and spaced equally between the banner and menu.
Give your links a colour/contrast. Is hard to scan through a block of navy blue and nothing else.
Get a solid grid happening.
The menu could look nicer with a bit more vertical space.
Not hot on the type choices, but guessing this may be due to the clients ID.
Try center aligned the menu and footer, though could be wrong.

how much are they paying you?

Can you persuade them to change the logo – 'cause it is weak and about 15 years out of date.

- if you do this, make the white area 960-980 pixels wide. it looks small (800px?).. thus dated.iCanHasQBN
- you know this is my idea you know!!brodyR

clean and simple
Nav is a bit lost all the way up there though, I'd try and have the logo above or next to the nav

phoenix has a skyline? the buildings in that image are cloned.
i dont think you should use an image for the background. the white is nice and clean. also makes the site feel larger and not so closed in since you can't see the left/right edges of it.

i hate websites. i dont like mortgages either.
(but i dont see anything wrong with what you did there)

Everything seems really flat to me. In comparison...
I was just looking at this site before. Granted it's a little too 2.0 for my tastes, a subtle gradients, think outlines, and ome subtle shadows go a long way. { https://www.zecco.com }

It doesn't look like you've used a grid to help you size columns etc. Try a 10 or 12 column grid to give the site more consistency. It will help other pages look part of a system rather than designed separately.

one thing to try: seeing as the sky behind the mountains isn't all that, maybe cut it out. so it becomes more of a graphical element than jsut a rectangular picture

thanks everyone for the great feedback - much appreciated!

It is not bad, but somehow it looks a bit dated already.
It is mostly down to type choice and size.

needs more flash....oh wait.

I think the header photo should be something more human and personal (more macro/close), and with the city in the back as you mocked up. Looks good, though! Just needs a touch more contrast and excellent photography.

The bullet list bg is kinda fuggly.

Has a little bit of a generic template look to it, but its a mortgage company so who cares. Its good enough, it gets the job done.
