Was just handed a Kodak Super 8MM projector as a "here, you can do something with this I'm sure" gift; damn thing actually works. Thinking that movie projections on naked models, dutifully recorded with DSLR's, may be the way to go... but, where or where are those 8mm films filling up somebody's attic/basement? Tried eBay - way too focused on "mint", "perfect", "sealed"... don't want pristine, want real life. Nothing but curious looks from the local library, so... thoughts, directions, love letters, advice gratefully received. Extra stars for sources in Canada.

This store in Calgary had (when I lived there) a crazy selection of old cameras and related stuff. They might be worth checking out.
- Man, that's a great site - thanks!********
- Sadly, no gritty movies about...********

I was given the same years ago by my father, camera and projector. Heard there is a place in Santa Monica where you purchase film and processing from.
In my case everything worked so I just grabbed a canon xl in a very very dark room, projected it and HIT record. No sound by the way but added the theme song to the "Wonder Years" ;)
- nice - but naked models? :)********
- Hmmm... actually - you still got the 8mm films? Willing to part with them if you do?********
- the place is called Yale, if I remember correctly.capn_ron

You want some family's home video footage or something?

the media which you need to project is not widely produced nor securely archived in great amounts except for niche users of that media.
It would be cool though to shoot in that media and do screenings of these new vintage productions.
- It has been done, of course, but when the 8mm format was current - so, yeah, recording old with current has all sorts of possibilities...********

- lol - yeah, I suppose - been around long enough to see it happen several cycles now...********

I've always had good luck finding old 8mm/S8 and 16mm family films at thrift stores, junk shops and flea markets.

garage sales..... maybe lots of driving around though...

I did know some experimental film guys who got a motherlode of 16mm industrial footage outtakes from the 60's and 70's when a manufacturing company went out of business....
hard to get that kind of luck these days though....

Score! Pricey, but that was bound to happen...

Maybe you should concentrate less on clichés and more on creating something decent. Projecting on naked models sounds pretty wack, but getting an old camera, some film and shooting your own shit sounds good.
