Yes OSFA, 3.1.3 can be unlocked various ways, as well as 3.1.2.
IIRC You can download firmware versions (like 3.1.3) and restore your iphone to a specified version, saved on your hard drive.
Good luck dude! nice of your friend to give it you.

I've tried to unlock it and nothing! (3gs on 4.0) My friend updated to 4.0 before giving it to me :(
could I restore it completely? Would that drop me to at least 3.1.3 so that it can be unlocked???

how can I find out the bootrom? Got this one last night...

Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.
● If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
● If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0. Please don't use this tutorial.

I followed all the steps, got everything done and when I tried to restore n iTunes, I keep getting an error message...
'Unknown error (1604)' Has anyone else experience this?

At least I could use it as iPod Touch :)

People are selling spots in line for the iPhone 4G on Airbnb { http://bit.ly/b7PgOJ }

maybe it will, maybe it won't. There was people stuck on 3.1.3 since january that only got a solution this week...

I won't be using it as a phone for at least two months. I'm guessing there will be jailbraking possibilities by then.

I just heard you can't have a background anymore once you update the 3g,
I like my bg,
anyone can tell me exactly what the update do ( to a 3G off course)

needs more info to satisfy your request.
The deal is, iOS 4 was released monday. The same day, the Dev-Team (jailbreak ninja crew) released a jailbreak and unlock for the iPhone 3G / iPod Touch 2G. Yesterday, they released the jailbreak and unlock for 3Gs that was already jailbroken (excluding the 3.1.3 Spirit JL). So even if your device is not on the safe list yet, I'm sure it will be very soon. How soon? I don't know. that's a risk you're taking.

It might need to be unlocked in the US (at least legally), where I live there are plenty of places who offer a no questions asked handset unlocking service for a fee.

Here we go. I'm thinking of buying a 16GB 3GS here in the States for $200 from a friend and taking it back to Europe where I live most of the time. It's in mint condition etc. Never had an iPhone, so I'm trying to find out if I'd have any problems unlocking it. Cheers, you bastards :)

Apparently there is no jailbreak for iOS 4 yet

Buy one in the states and one in europe, then you have twice as much respect
- ESKEMA0
You're buying it at the store? or from someone? right now, only older 3Gs models (old bootrom) already previously jailbroken (excluding spirit) can have JB/UL iOS 4. If you're buying from the store there's no solution at the moment, altough I'm pretty sure it's on the way.

wait for your solution and then apply said solution.
