Marching ants problem

I'm using photoshop cs4 on a mac, and a few days ago my marquee selections stopped being displayed as "marching ants" but as a solid black line:
Anyone seen this before or know how to fix it?

Are you using the shape tool instead of the marquee selection?

heh, nope. It still works fine, it's just really annoying on dark backgrounds.

Is your Caps lock on? I've noticed that certain tools' icons change when the caps lock is on.

I'd reset all your tools.
1 Select a tool (such as marque)
2. Click on the tool icon that appears (top left usually)
3. Click on the little triangle from the pop up menu.
4. Select reset tools.If you have custom shit setup on your machine don't do this... but if you are like me and just use the default stuff I don't think it can do any harm.

weird that it just started, these problems are typically video card and openGL related. prefs > performance > gpu settings
