After more than 5-6 years from blogs peak to popularity and earnings and Twitter, is it too late to make money from advertising on a blog?

possibly - unless you can run the blog yourself - and get over 0.5 million visitors per month

It depends on the blog type. A friend of mine runs a Rapidshare porn blog and through ads served on the pages and through ads from sharingmatrix and pay links he gets about 6 grand a month.
They'll probably get shut down at some point but for the time being he's raking it in - Quite literally raking the net for content and populating blog posts with it.

It's probably true to say that advertising spend on the web is increasing. If you accept this, the increased advertising revenue has to be spent somewhere - why shouldn't it be spent on a popular site that you create?
Imo, the question isn't whether it's too late (or not) .. the useful question is - how can you create a site which is popular enough to be a viable prospect?

Here is an example of successful blogs http://vip.wordpress.com/

I wanted to start twatter.com which would essentially be a twitter clone to post your favorite porn links and videos. Sadly the name was already registered and I lost interest in moving any further.

You are a day late and a dime short my friend....

Of course not, the opportunities for starting a crappy blog and shitting out secondhand content in a transparent ploy to get a few Adsense clickthroughs are greater than. Twitter simply serves as an aggregation mechanism for your pyramid scheme.

I've landed local an regional sponsorship for ad placement on a local niche blog , and a sprinkle here n there from ad sense , makes enough to keep me interested in keeping it going , and I see more local sites popping up it's not always bout going national , local money is huts ad good

As other have said, its a little late in the day. However, good content is good content, and niche is key. If you can redirect for something exclusive to a mobile platform, you may have something there.

Why late in the day? It's not like there was a trend that peaked or something. Look at Yahoo's purchase of blog network Associated Content and AOL's move in a similar direction. The web is growing, people are searching more, clicking on more stuff, therefore the ad money to be made is growing, not declining.
Thing is if you put up a blog about your personal life or something, or the nth blog of design images from other sites, then sit back and wait for the money to roll in, you may be slightly disappointed a month later when you receive your five dollar check from Google. If you want to actually make a living off this stuff (not that I do but I know people who do) you have to actually treat it as a business and pursue it as such.
- It's the same as saying it's too late in the day to write a book - because the printing press was invented in the 15th century.********
