it came from a haitian tradition. i have a recipe for "zombie powder" which they used to create mindless drones out of people. the main ingredient is a tetrodotoxin derived from frogs, along with a bunch of other toxic shit. it's mixed with tarantula hairs, which, when the powder is blown onto a person irritate the skin, making them scratch and break the skin, introducing the chemicals into the bloodstream
first zombie movie was "white zombie" (starring bela lugosi, watched it two days ago incidentally). a white couple visit haiti to be wed, the girl is made into a zombie by a jealous lover who thinks it will finally make her his, with dire results.
