"Jeri Ryan (who appears in this video as Sonya Blade) confirmed on Twitter that this is NOT a game trailer but instead made by director Kevin Tancharoen (FAME) to "sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film."
Whoa.
I've seen a number of homemade or semi-professional video game films attempting to convince us that a feature would be a good idea, but absolutely none of them come anywhere close to Mortal Kombat Rebirth, a mysterious, unsourced YouTube video with insane production values and a few recognizable faces in it.
Rumor had it this was a teaser for a new game in the series, but we hear it’s actually being shopped around Hollywood to be turned into its very own film. We learned recently that Warners has been looking to reboot MK, and after watching this video, it’s clear this would be a PERFECT way to do it.
Update: Our boys at LatinoReview have all the answers!
The short was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who did the remake of Fame last year. Judging from this short, Kevin is the perfect director for this movie.
Jacks is played by Michael Jai White. Michael played Spawn and was in Undisputed II. Michael makes a great Jacks (Jax).
Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager.
Baraka was played by the very talented Lateef Crowder, who plays the Brazilian fighter in Undisputed III.
Scorpion is played by Ian Anthony Dale. Ian plays Kazuya in the upcoming big screen version of Tekken.
Johnny Cage was played by up and coming martial arts sensation Matt Mullins. Still working on who played Reptile. Will update when I find out.
The fight choreography was done by Larnell Stovall. Larnell did the fight choreography for Undisputed III and is one of the best fight choreographers in the business. You want to see the fights you deserve? Then you fans should DEMAND he be the guy in one charge for this reboot.
I know who might be playing Sub-Zero, but don't want to mention it in case it screws something up. He'd be perfect for the part."

Someone should perform a fatality on the ppl that keep trying to make mortal kombat movies.

the original... was better
- the original was pretty good. campy but not too campy like the street fighter moviebigtrickagain

As far as Mortal Kombat goes, this movie looks ridiculous. How do you do a total revamp on the WHOLE STORY!!!!!!????? No faith in any of the original stuff. Yea Street Fighter is better.
As far as a Michael Jai White action flick.....I'll watch it. Dude is like the new Stephen Seagal with a sense of humor. Black Dynamite was the SHIT!
But I'm dissapointed they took this angle on the whole series. Sub, Rep and Scorpion where ninjas dammit!! What happen to the chills that went up your spine when you saw Sub and Scorpion walk in for the first time?! I bet Sub-zero will be a meth addict who uses "Ice" to finish his enemies.
- lol - what story? it's a video game.********
- That's actually a great idea ironmonkey.dopepope
- oh no dope, dont agree with me trying to be retarded lol!Ironmonkey
- lol - what story? it's a video game.

i was always a street fighter head over mortal kombat but i always loved their movies.. this has so much potential and hopefully will be made, it looked nice with opening a back story to the bad boys like reptile and scorpion but left sub-zero a mystery.. awesome!!
i still see mike tyson as spawn everytime i see michael jai white.. and i laughed when i saw he was jacks.. the attention to details in the shots were really well done, i like that kind of focus to the originals as much as possible..
i see Tekken is mentioned above for a remake.. i saw the original in Hong Kong and still think its up there with the best of anything out there..
for anyone that doesnt know what im talking about.. the original TEKKEN..
The Avenging Fist
http://www.lovehkfilm.com/review…i can only hope that this movie gets picked up and made..

yeah, mortal kombat the original movie was already better than other fight adaptations like the street fighter movie, or dead or alive (HAHA), both in execution and in how seriously they took themselves. this new reboot seems like it'd take it up a notch beyond that - and the way the teaser is shot bodes extremely well. hopefully it gets made, and sparks a run of video game movie adaptations of similar caliber. i am with epill on preferring the street fighter video games over mortal kombat games though.

"Get over here" ... Let the meme's commence!

This has gotta happen...
Also i must say Michael Jai White is so underrated!!!
Watch Blood and Bone... One of the BEST new fight films out there. The dude is truly BAD ASS, one to have in your corner when shit kicks off! This could break the Game to movie curse.
- ETM0
Doesn't breaking the game to movie curse mean two things, creating a true to original content film while being financially successful. Well there seems to be little true to the original content there.
