I currently use Sony Vegas on a Windows platform. I have switched to Mac now and need an alternative to Vegas. I am an intermediate editor (soaking wet).

I use Final Cut Pro, but Adobe has really upped their game with the newest release of Premiere
Express, only if your strictly a home movie editor.

how much project collaboration will you do? avid and fcp are pretty much the standard. another thing to think of: I don't think there's a plethora of freelance gigs using vegas or express.

express can do a lot more for then home movies.
It is very simple to use and pretty affordable. They also have some great plugins available.
You might want to check out some youtube videos so you can see the comparison.

It's not the plug-ins that make a good system, it's media management tools and work flow across the broadest spectrum of formats being used in production today.
